This talk will cover the basics of what an SQL execution plan is, why it is important to know how to read one, and what the most common elements of plans are.

Have you ever heard of an SQL execution plan? Do you know what they mean? If you've only ever opened one only to be confused by all of the pretty icons, you're not alone. Many developers use a SQL server to store their data, but have never peeked behind the curtain to find out how it actually works. SQL servers are a gold-mine of information to help any developer improve their queries, if one only knows how to interpret the data. Come learn how to read an execution plan and how to find out which parts of the plan you need to be looking for a healthier database and a faster server.
